1.Vouchers?! 3/30/2015 2:08:00 AM

Hi,  Just bought three 500 Euro vouchers.  Want to buy the Keyboards bundle, but when I go through the sales basket procedure and put the voucher numbers in, I'm still told I need to pay by PayPal or Credit Card.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?  I'd love to start downloading.  Thanks,   Tom

2.VI Pro Included? 2/20/2015 4:13:26 PM

Hi,  A friend called to tell me he's thinking of getting one of the VSL packages, and wondered what other expenses might be involved.  So a question:  Is VI Instruments Pro included when you buy a string bundle?  I don't think so, but thought I'd ask for him.  Thanks!   Tom

3.What is Hans Zimmer's greatest score? 9/4/2013 7:13:20 PM

I haven't tuned into this forum for awhile.  Seems to me this Hans Zimmer thing has been going on a spell.

No doubt the HZ movie scores have been going downhill.  I listen to many if not all of them and am rarely pulled in anymore.  But that is not to say he hasn't ability or hasn't done good work earlier in his long career.  William, check out "Wings of a Film" a live concert of Zimmer stuff selected from various scores and conducted by Hans.  It shows range and melody, I think.  Also, the brooding score of "Beyond Rangoon" held my attention for a long time.  Granted, this is early stuff.  Lone Ranger didn't grab me.  Niether did the Pirates scores, although they had their moments.

4.Cloudstone Soundtrack 4/11/2013 5:08:38 PM

Hi Suon,

Just listened to "Woodland Fairies" a few times.  Very nice!  I like the string build up that follows your opening theme.  And I'm very impressed with your mix!  A pleasure to listen to.  (I think those Fairies are still pretty upbeat, though.  I didn't quite hear the tragedy of their demise.)

Good work, Suon.  I'm going to buy your CD.                  Best,    Tom Miller

5.Jazz drums in MIR Pro 12/12/2012 4:12:36 PM

How about the single spoken voice?  So far, I almost have to cut the wet signal out completely, or it's boomy.  What are other people's other experience with a solo voice?

6.Rm Pk I vs 2 11/20/2012 2:55:13 PM

Hi,  I'm just getting going with MIR.  So far so good, but wondering.  My current project is writing music to accompany a collection of spoken poems.  I realize that I can dial down the reverb tails, wet/dry mix, etc., but wondering if I might not be better off in the long run by purchasing Room Pac 2, with the Teldex studio.  Seems like a lot of spoken programs were recorded there.

Anybody doing similar spoken word/VSL projects? I realize that in the end it depends on the project, but I'm curious to hear some comparisons between Room Pacs I and 2.  Thanks!                Tom

7.Dimension Strings 10/25/2012 3:15:13 PM

Hi,  I went ahead and bought DS.  It took me 19 hours to download it.  It all went pretty smoothly.

8.Dimension Strings 10/16/2012 3:17:05 PM

Hi Everyone,  Perhaps my questions have already been answered, but I'm in a rush and don't have time to check.

Two Questions:

1)  Has it been established when the Early Bird Offer ends?  I've been on the road with no chance to do the download til now.

2)  Is there any more concensous on a ball park length of time for the DS download?  I have a 6 core MacP with 32 gigs RAM.  I've got to schedule the download accordingly, as time is still tight.

Thanks much.  Can't wait to use DS!      Cheers,     Tom

9.Is Vienna Ensemble Pro a good idea? 7/11/2012 7:57:50 PM

Thanks, Cyril.  Will keep that in mind.             Tom

10.Is Vienna Ensemble Pro a good idea? 7/11/2012 6:48:20 PM

Really?  Why is that?

Also, I'm already struggling with the notion of having to relearn all my procedures if I want to use MIR.  I just read a 30 something page tutorial on how to set up Ensemble Orchestral Templates when using Logic Pro 9 and my head is spinning with the number of confusing steps and workarounds, just to do what I already do using Logic Pro and no Ensemble.  Right now, as someone whose not particularly technically adept, I keep asking myself-- what's the point of Ens 5, besides running MIR and connecting slave computers, I don't see the need for it.

I've watched the tutorials.  Still feel like there's something I'm not getting...  Ah well.  Once I've got the new MacPro and have it all running, I suppose my reservations will diminish.

11.Is Vienna Ensemble Pro a good idea? 7/10/2012 7:23:31 PM

Whoops--you've done the former, I'm afraid to admit.  I have Ens 4 loaded on my MacPro but don't use it.  I'm sure it's great, but since I'm not using a slave computer I didn't want to take the time to figure it out.  (aux tracks for automation, if using Logic Pro?  Is that still in effect?  I just want to click automation onto a track and go.)

I finally broke down and ordered a "new" MacPro 6 core.  Will load Ens 5 onto (Mir for me finally) and use my 06 Mac Pro as a slave.

I suspect the advantages of Ens 4 probably outweighed the disadvantages, but to the unaguainted it just seemed like another layer on the onion, and I got along fine without it.        Cheers,  Tom

12.Jazz Drums question 7/6/2012 2:21:49 PM

And I'll add to that question:  Are jazz drum users from the Vienna Suite purchase entitled to the midi loops?  Seems to me the original jazz d video talked about future expansion of midi loops.  I hope these are accesable for us.  I'd love to use them .

Thanks!  Tom

13.MacPro Raises? 6/8/2012 4:05:26 PM

Hi Guys,

Word has it that, after a long two years, Apple is going to introduce an updated Macpro.  So--finally, I'll scrap my 06 MacP for a new one, and that means it'll be time to get MIR going.  Anyone out there looking to get a new MacPro & if so, what configuration are you looking for?

Cheers,    Tom

14.Anyone running MIR + Instruments on same computer? 4/12/2012 3:38:12 PM

Waste of space?  Calm down.  No one's on trial here.

15.MacPro a Dinosaur? 2/25/2012 5:59:21 PM

Thanks, Cyril.  I guess as a MacPro user I'll have to wait it out.  Sure hope it's not too long.......       Tom

16.MacPro a Dinosaur? 2/24/2012 4:48:11 PM

Hi Guys,

I've been waiting for a MacPro Update for quite some time.  Now the rumors are that this mythical Update may never arrive, with the MP line being discontinued.  That certainly would be a poke in the eye to the high end MP users by Apple.  If it happens (just a rumor) what would be the way to go if one wanted to use MIR and all the other memory eaters that the MacPro has handled?  Will this "Thunderbolt" become the new way?  Anyone know anything about it?                        Thanks,  Tom

17.My first theme made with Vienna 11/23/2011 7:53:09 PM

Hi Ricardo,  Just listened to your piece.  Very nice.  Two possible suggestions, if you're going to continue working on it.

1)  The eighth note string pattern seems quite dominant from beginning to end.  Perhaps a bit more rhythmic variation in that part would create interesting changes in texture.  2)  The ending's a bit abrupt.  There might be room to build up to a larger ending section.  But very listenable as it is.  Good work and good luck with VSL!       Best,   Another Tom

18.download delivery option? 11/23/2011 4:11:05 PM

Speaking of Jazz Drums, I believe VSL said they were going to ad MIDI drum files of different beats, fills, etc, when Jazz Drums was first released as a bonus instrument.  Does anyone know if there are more preset drum MIDI files and where to get them?  I absolutely love the Jazz Drums, but often don't use them as I'm short on time to program them into a song file.

Thanks & All Best,       Tom

19.Wowed with the new releases 11/19/2011 8:13:15 PM

Thanks, Paul, and all the crew at VSL.  All three releases at once.  That makes my Saturday, and many days to come, methinks!     Tom

20.Wowed with the new releases 11/19/2011 6:53:59 PM

OSX users have been waiting for a long time for Mir Pro.  Is it out now???  I wonder how I missed the announcement, if it is.     Tom

21.Decision for purchase - just looking for some advice. 8/30/2011 5:39:04 PM

Hi Beat,

Thanks much.  I'll check into them.  They sound great!

      Cheers,       Tom

22.Decision for purchase - just looking for some advice. 8/29/2011 2:26:50 PM

Beat,

Very nice piece.  I haven't downloaded Hybrid yet.  Better get to it.

I'm curious what instrument share 4 bar leads with the flute around 1:24 into your piece.  It sounds like Uileann Pipes.

          Thanks,      Tom

23.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 6/8/2011 9:20:20 PM

Hi, Can you guys clarify this "end of spring" MIR Pro release time?  I've now heard that it probably won't be released till late summer.  Correct?  Understandable, if there are still issues, but I'll need to stop holding my breath if need be.             Cheers,   Tom

24.What's the Point? 4/28/2011 3:37:25 PM

I'm very impressed with Christian K's work.  Would love to see him teach a class on VI.  I've spent years learning VI techniques that work for me & suspect that this sort of "class" would have sped up the process, & would result in less pulling-of-hair for those climbing the learning curve.
