1.VEP7 Always scanning Waves plugins, even though they aren't enabled 1/16/2021 4:24:25 PM
I understand the procedure, but I’d like to suggest that if a plugin is not checked in the plugin preferences screen, then it should not get checked upon start up. Waves included.
2.VEP7 Always scanning Waves plugins, even though they aren't enabled 1/3/2021 3:40:32 PM
Thank you Paul. I do not use any cache cleaners. This also only seems to scan Waves plugins. Is it possible this is an issue with VEP? I upgraded from VEP6 back in December, and don’t remember ever seeing this behavior before then.
3.VEP7 Always scanning Waves plugins, even though they aren't enabled 12/31/2020 6:18:02 PM

I've tried to find an answer to this online without any luck.   My preferences for VEP7 have all insert plugins unchecked.   The only instrument plugins that I have checked are Kontakt and EW Play.   Still - every single time I start VEP7, it scans through my 100 different Waves plugins, and takes a really long time to finish.   Can anyone explain how to stop this behavior?   I have a feeling it's a log file or pref somewhere that needs to get flushed.

Possibly related, but VEP7 almost always crashes while scanning these Waves plugins on the first try after restarting my computer.   The 2nd time always works (but still scans them).

Thank you!

4.VEP and Digital Performer Offline Bounce Problem 2/25/2016 6:03:34 PM

For anyone interested, Vienna support confirmed this bug, and confirmed that it is a DP issue (not an issue with VEP).

Thank you for offering to help.   I'll try to put together an example of what is happening and email it.

Thank you Paul, but I already have those options selected.   I've never used Pre-gen mode with VEP.   Any other ideas?

7.VEP and Digital Performer Offline Bounce Problem 2/16/2016 11:11:21 PM

Hello Karel.   My buffer is set to 520 in Digital Performer.   I have the plugin running at 3 Buffers.  That seems to be the best setting for my large template. when playing back a cue.   I've run the click offline bounce test using 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 buffers in the plugin.   Even at 0, there is still some lag in all outputs (except 1 & 2) behind where the offline bounce is using Outputs 1 & 2.  It's like DP does not recognize the latency and compensate for it when using any output other than 1 & 2, regardless of the buffer settings.

8.VEP and Digital Performer Offline Bounce Problem 2/16/2016 6:30:28 PM

Hello.  I posted this in the MAS plugin thread, but it didn't seem to get any notice, so I'll try giving it a new topic here.   I have found a problem with offline bouncing that is consistent with every test I've run.   When using a single instance of VEP (MAS version) hosted in DP 9, I have 24 pairs of stereo audio coming in to AUX channels.   My VEP template has one instance with several Kontakt and Omnisphere plugins, each going to a seperate output pair.  When using offline bouncing in DP, only outputs 1 & 2 will bounce on the grid.  Every other pair is consistently late and behind the grid.  Normal playback is fine, and spot on with a click, but for printing stems, this timing error is a big problem for me.

This is a screenshot of a simple test I ran.  I have one midi track in DP playing quarter note clicks through a VEP hosted Kontakt plugin.  When the plugin is set to use outputs 1&2, it bounces offline and can be re-imported to see the click right on the grid.   If I change the Kontakt plugin to use outputs 17 & 18 (or any other random pair), it can be reimported and shows a latency of 1514 samples.

So, I can't figure out a way around this, unless I use a single output pair from VEP, but that doesn't help much for mixing in DP.  Does anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks!

Greg

9.UPDATE: MAS Version for Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 available 2/9/2016 5:39:00 PM

Hello.   I've been using VEP and Digital Performer for quite a while now, but just encountered a weird problem.  Not sure where it started, or if it's a VEP or DP thing, but here goes.....

When bouncing offline in DP, if I use any output in VEP other than 1 & 2, there is a noticeable lateness in the audio when I import it in to DP.   I tested with a midi drum track playing through Kontakt in VEP going out 1 & 2.   When I bounce offline and re-import to DP, the timing is right on the grid.   If I just change the output assignement in VEP to something else and redo this, the timing is behind the grid consistently.   I've gone through every setting and option in DP and VEP trying to get around this but it's still there.   Here's a screenshot of what the audio offset looks like:

DRUM OFFSET IMAGE

The top track is using output 3 & 4 (I called it Offline Normal) and the bottom track is using 1 & 2 (from Audio)

Any ideas?

10.UPDATE: MAS Version for Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 available 2/28/2015 6:40:00 PM

Working ok for me so far, with one major exception:   tempo changes are causing drop outs and clicks.  I have a dense orchestral cue that plays back perfectly, right up until a ritard near the end.  It goes from 74bpm to 50 bpm in a slow ritard.  As soon as it hits this point in the conductor track, I get all sorts of pops, crackles, dropped notes.  I verified that it plays back fine using the AU plugin.  It seems to have only started on the MAS version (which is awesome btw!).

Anyone else encounter this?

11.Latency Compensation in VEPro 10/15/2009 5:59:30 PM

So does this mean that when you bounce to disk or do a real-time record pass at the end of your project---that the resulting audio will line up perfectly with the midi?

I'm just trying to understand the implications of VEPro latency, besides the obvious bothersome monitoring delay if latency is high.

If you're scoring to film and need a hit point to occur at an exact point, isn't this a problem?

I did my own testing in DP7 using your method and found variable latency from note to note using VEPro internal midi plugin. Sometimes spot on, sometimes 100-200 samples early or late at zero buffer in server setting, and obviously delayed further at 1 and 2 buffer settings.

Thanks for any further insight!

Yes, this will keep everything in line. It's like telling DP to start playing the midi on the track 2600 samples early so that it compensates for the return latency. The TIME SHIFT midi plugin hardly takes any cpu power to run, so I just duplicate it on every midi track (going to VE Pro). Keep in mind that 200 samples is about .004 seconds (at 48k sample rate). 1 frame of film is about .04 seconds (at 24 fps), so 100-200 samples off is probably not going to affect hitting a moment in a film score.

No, the "plugin MIDI" is much faster (totally precise to be specific), but there wasn't any extra latency using external MIDI (MOL) compared to the setup I had before using a sound card and MIDI.

Basically, even at it's highest latency setting, VEP is at least as fast as my old setup.

That's kind of surprising. I did a similar test here and had noticeable latency with DP 5.13 and VE Pro (on the same machine). I set up a click sound in a kontakt 3 instance hosted in VE Pro and assigned it to Omni input. In DP I made a quarter note track for the click and played it back with the internal click activated. When the track played through VE Pro's plugin midi, the timing was dead on (at 0 buffers). Using OS X IAC, the latency was noticeable. Using DP's internal Inter-application midi, the latency was about the same as IAC. When you raise the buffer on VE Pro's instrument channel, everything starts drifting further behind. It's pretty easy to compensate for this in DP using the midi offset plugin on your track. I found that 2600 samples earlier would line everything up perfectly (using inter-app midi or IAC). I could try MOL also, but it's pretty much tied up with my giga machine. btw - my DP buffer is set at 512. This setting has a lot to do with your ve pro results no matter what midi method you use.
13.Latency Compensation in VEPro 10/13/2009 4:05:26 PM
I tried a test when the update came out, and sent a steady quarter note out of DP into VE Pro running a click sound in kontakt. If you send out through the VE Pro midi (the one linked to the instrument channel), the timing is dead on. If you use IAC or DP's internal midi option, the latency is obvious. I want to use all of the ports in one VE Pro, so I just calculated the latency and used DP's midi offset plugin to compensate for it. Just figure it out on one track, copy the plugin setting to a clippings window, and then drag it into every midi track that uses VE Pro. Doesn't help much for playing in real time though.
14.IAC Midi vs. Digital Performer built in Inter-App Midi 10/11/2009 4:42:13 PM
I tested out the Inter application midi features in VE Pro this morning, and it works great. One small snag, and I'm wondering if this is a DP issue, or a VE Pro issue:

I first set up my midi to use OS X's IAC driver, and it works just fine, except in Digital Performer, you get a midi feedback error if you record enable a track. They work around this is to run in multi-record mode constantly.... but this has it's own issues, and I prefer not to work this way.

Next, I tried setting up DP's own Inter-Application midi (I didn't even know it existed until today). This seems to work perfect with VE Pro, except that the port names were not the same. DP IAC 1 out, was only recognized in VE Pro on DP IAC 3. So, it was like everything was 2 ports off. I think I read about this same problem someone else had here... but couldn't find the post. Is this something that is just a matter of the order I assign ports, or an issue with the software?

thanks so much for updating VE Pro with this great feature!
15.VE Pro Server cannot open "not supported on this architecture"? 10/8/2009 1:57:30 AM
Well.... i guess i just solved it. As soon as i installed VE Pro, I dragged the folder to my MUSIC APPS folder. I just tried dragging it back to the default install location.... and everything opens now. Does that seem strange? I like to keep things organized by folders. Weird.
16.VE Pro Server cannot open "not supported on this architecture"? 10/8/2009 1:54:59 AM
Maybe I missed something, but I've gone over the manuals, the videos, and combed through the forum...... I think this is an error:

Just installed VE Pro, got my usb key going, and opened VE Pro just fine. Now, I close VE Pro and try opening Vienna Ensemble Pro Server, and get this error message: "You can't open the application "Vienna Ensemble Pro Server" because it is not supported on this architecture."

Does the same thing with the 64-bit version. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, and restarting the computer. It just always gives me this message. The icon for VE Pro Server changed also. Now it just shows a grey circle with a slash through it. I'm on OS X 10.5.8

I'm sorry if I just overlooked something..... but I don't think this is working right.

Any ideas?
17.VE with Gigastudio? 10/7/2009 2:57:02 AM
I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried using G-Player or GVI in VE Pro. I want to keep my PC around to run these giga instruments, but I love the idea do it inside of VE Pro and sending it back to my mac. Sound like GVI instruments inside of VE Pro on my PC slave is the most direct way of doing this. Just wondering if VE Pro can handle figuring out the latency issues from the PC running this.
18.VE with Gigastudio? 10/6/2009 3:51:23 PM
I'm curious about what is the best way to implent Gigastudio using these methods. Would you have a VE Pro host on a PC, and run G-Player or Linuxsampler as a VST instrument inside VE Pro? I use a pretty big gigastudio template, and one of the things that makes keep it around is the low latency and heavy work load handling. Does anyone with experience using these other giga format players know if they can keep up with a fully loaded gigastudio template? Sounds like a nice option if it works.
19.VE with Gigastudio? 10/5/2009 3:31:32 PM
I was thinking about this exact same scenario... but I'm more interested in replacing my Wormhole plugins with VE. Right now, I have Wormhole vst plugins sending audio over LAN to my Mac running DP. Any chance of ever seeing a VE plugin that does the same thing, but sends to the VE Pro host on a Mac?
