1.Vienna Assistant still shows installed VSL libs as "Not installed" 5/24/2022 10:48:48 PM

Hi,

Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same issue.

Rob

2.VEPro - "Open Instance" does not update the "Untitled" Instance name? 4/5/2022 6:09:15 PM

I wanted to add the following info:
- loading a saved instance using the load button from the UI, does indeed flash the color and name that were saved with the instance originally, before turning name back to "Untitled" and color back to that VSL blue ;)
- however, if I double click on the .vep64 file (in this case am using the 64b version and am on a Mac), now the instance name is populated with the filename! Color is still VSL blue.

This is odd behavior and, still in 2022, is a current "bug/feature" that I find unsettling.

I get the same behavior described by those above... the correct name and color comes up as it begins to load, then it goes back to VSL Blue and "Untitled."

Don't you think it's possible that we would want to build a new server project by loading various new combinations of specific Instances we have previously created? And that we would want them to be named and color-coded as before? Those are the kind of tasks that need happen only once, ever.

I don't understand this concept. The color and name needs to be saved with the Instance.

It would be like in an old Roland synth, if every time you created a new Performance you had to re-name the Patches each time.  ???

That's on top of the fact that it is already confusing that we are discussing Instances, but they are referred to as Projects in the menu.

Must it be complicated?

3.[SOLVED] Can I use Vienna Imperial in VEPro 7 VIPro2? 9/12/2021 9:12:57 AM

Here are the latest versions!

Yes, that is what I did eventually. And it's working well now.

Thanks, Paul!

4.[SOLVED] Can I use Vienna Imperial in VEPro 7 VIPro2? 9/3/2021 12:05:10 PM

I'm having the same issue. When I try to load Vienna Imperial from VEP 7, it says "Toolkit: Vienna Imperial  Could not open plugin

I've installed latest versions of everything to my knowledge.

Thx

5.Template with VEP: Logic or Cubase? 12/16/2017 7:29:29 AM
I am rebuilding my Logic template (ugh), and I have a fundamental question.

Can I have in ARTzID (with VE Pro 6 and in Logic) both Keyswitch/Hybrid mode AND the ability to change overall MIDI channels manually within the same VE Pro instance?

In a nutshell, I am trying to set up libraries like Spitfire Chamber Strings… So, say for Violins I, I have a “VIOLINS I (SCS)” instance in VE Pro… on MIDI ch. 1 I want the “Core Techniques” patch, and I need ARTzID to be in Keyswitch/Hybrid mode to access the various keyswitched articulations contained within. However, that doesn’t cover everything I need; so I want a 2nd instance of Kontakt (in the same VE Pro instance) to cover the “Decorative Techniques” patch. So, I want to put that on MIDI channel 2 and, hopefully, just switch the MIDI channel physically on my main controller.

Is that possible?

I can’t seem to get the basic ability to switch between either multiple Kontakt instruments set to different MIDI channels in a single VE Pro Instance or multiple patches within a single Kontakt set to separate MIDI channels at the same time I'm using ARTzID. I have tried playing around in the Environment, but I can’t find it. BTW, I am set to STAXX MK+Prg mode.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light...
6.After four weeks of VSL 3/9/2003 7:17:43 AM
I've read a lot of "reasons" why the clicking is there, and how it can/should be masked, filtered, etc....

Perhaps it's simply too darn loud and it's bugging some people--for good reason. There is a balance between authenticity and making too much of the things that really aren't what the instrument is supposed to be about.
7.After four weeks of VSL 3/5/2003 7:31:02 PM
it sounds to me that the VSL version is the "slowest" responding on the faster figures/appog.'s...
8.Time for a real string library comparison! 3/5/2003 7:25:19 PM
I, too have all three.

I just finished an article for Electronic Musician magazine that covers the "best of..." in string libraries that, of course, covers all three of the above-mentioned libraries as well as others.

I agree with KI; SI sounds great out of the box, but has no tool for overcoming the "wah-wah' effect of the static attack envelopes. GOS and VSL are employing revolutionary techniques that no one else is doing. These techniques make the control of articulations much more a function of the user's skills, patience and time.

VSL still has a lot of holes to fill in the areas od dynamic layers, articulations, etc., which they are quite aware of and are working on like crazy, I presume. The promise of where VSL is heading based on the initial release of the Cube and P-Set tells me that VSL will need to be a component of all serious users sooner or later.

That being said, all of these libraries have their strengths and weaknesses, much like any group of live musicians. Sometimes you need Steve Gadd; sometimes you want John Robinson for a recording date based on, primarily, the requirements of the music and what their "sound' is. Right? Same with sample libraries.

If you can only afford one library, then you will just have to investigate the options and decide on your own; no one of us could—or should—make that decision for you. These libraries are so deep that a simple comparative demo will NEVER properly represent each library at its full potential. All of these mega-libraries must be approached like new instruments; you have to learn how to coax the best from them and explore them in depth.

Regards,
Rob Shrock

10.A little VSL mockup for Shawshank Redemption fans 3/2/2003 6:28:05 PM

SMALL STRING ENSEMBLES

Small sections intended for two- and three-part divisi writing, perhaps set up as 1st Violins A, B and C sections, etc. (The A, B, and C sections need to be unique samples from each other so that the string writing can weave between divisi and unison without phasing or other duplication artifacts.) Keep the numbers small: 4-6 players max per section.

These small sections would also be great for layering over the larger section samples.

How about separate 1st and 2nd Violin section large ensembles, like Garritan and Sonic Implants?
