1.47 new download instruments online 7/31/2008 10:08:28 PM

Michael is right,

There are some excellent user-generated demos on the site, but I wish there were some more "official" ones.

I'm not in the business so I don't know if I'm asking for the impossible, but I think it would be of enormous benefit to have demos of each individual instrument, demonstrating at least a variety of (if not all) the articulations.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I think the East West Quantum Leap site has a much better "demo" fancility than this site (albiet without user-generated material, which is a shame). It's a wasted oppertunity

Enviromentally sound AND affordable for the musician who can't afford them all in one go - perfect!

I got very excited when I saw this.

I'd much rather buy one instrument at a time, or choose a specific instrument - I don't want the extra trombone, cornet and euphonium but I want the fanfare trumpets - exactly the special brass I want!

I'd be glad to see more single-instrument-at-a-time releases. Keep up the good work!

3.What new instruments would you like to see sampled by VSL? 4/2/2008 3:45:50 PM
I've never played a harmonica (except once as a kid). I don't know how difficult they are to play like the pros (with bends and train noises etc), but for the cost of a full-extended Vienna library set, you might as well buy an actual harmonica!
I suspect rather than potentially CPU intensive morphing software, a shrewd array of Xfades could see to the resonance wahs?

Sorry Vienna Symphonic Instruments, you know I love you!

Is it really that much better to use multiple mac minis than it is to use a single mac pro? do you have separate screens/mouse/DAW for each one? what a hassle

I recently saw a stage-show which had a big steel drum band. I had no idea there were so many different sizes of steel drums, nor what they sounded like when played in great numbers. Needless to say they sounded fantastic! A collection of ensembles/velocities would be extremely useful!

Rightly or wrongly, I suspect that now the Vienna Symphonic people have produced every conceivable orchestral instrument (plus harmoniums, double basses and electric guitars etc) and now they're ready to turn their sampling expertise over to a broader range of non-orchestral instruments.
After playing with the relatively limited sampled instruments in logic 8, I personally would like to see a range of ethnic plucked'n'struck instruments except taking advantage of the generous multiple velocity layers and articulations VSL would provide. I assume that there are more choirs are on the way too.
What else would we like to see?
7.Design my studio! 12/11/2007 8:32:41 AM
At the moment I make music using:

Miroslav Philarmonik
Ableton Live 6
Macbook 1.83Ghz 2GB ram

I'm taking my music making a lot more seriously since I purchased these things. I'm pleased with the results they have given, but I've gotten to the stage where each has failed me and it's seriously time to ugrade my sounds library, DAW and computer to something more proffessional (I'm sure the linear sequencing on Live6 is there as a gimick and not meant to be taken seriously!). I'm hoping the droves of proffessionals who frequent these hallowed forums might offer me a word or two of advice.

After Christmas, I'm planning on buying the following:

Vienna Instruments Brass 1+2 (or one or the other to begin with. I want them all eventually)
Logic Pro 8
Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz 2GB ram

Is this a good set up. I'd rather buy a desktop but I'm living abroad at the moment and very occassionally need to transport it. I read somewhere that high ram is more important than high processing speed when sequencing samples. Is this true?

Any help is extremely useful - it is going to cost me best part of $4,500!

VSL won the MIPA award in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007.

I wonder if there was some kind of mistake on the page I looked at?

I was suspicious about why Miroslav had a look in. It is hit and miss but mostly great for the price but can't be compared to anything by VSL.
I wonder if anyone has a personal 2nd choice after VSL?
(I hear the East West stuff is supposed to be good)
10.Depeche Mode cover using VSL 12/10/2007 4:19:08 AM
Splendid - better than, for instance, the Linkin Park cover of that song.
On an unrelated note, I wish more people would use the forums to draw attention to their VSL-incorperated non-movie-score/pure-symphonic creations.
I am hoping to purchase all the brass packages to use with some industrial metal - but it's tricky finding anyone who has used VSL for anything outside making movie-score music

thanks
BEN

MIPA 2006
http://www1.mipa-award.de/2006/winner.htm

I currently use Miroslav Philarmonik, and find it to be amazing but am hoping to start supplementing it with Vienna instruments as funds allow, eventually replacing it entirely. However I was suprised to see in MIPA that Philarmonik was ranked higher than VSL in 2006. I wondered if anyone had any comments on this?
