1.Karlheinz Stockhausen 12/7/2007 10:17:12 PM
Not that I particulary liked his music but nevertheless another great man has passed on...

2.Web Hosting 10/7/2007 4:19:29 PM
I would like to do something similar myself: can't really help you though, Dave TK, because I'm on a Mac whereas you (I think) are on Windows.

Is there anybody out there who can give any help at all?
3.When a Daxophone library? 8/15/2007 8:23:00 PM
It sounds like me in the morning [Indifferent]

On second thought, it sounds like me ALL the time Surpriseops:

4.RARE: Young Shostakovich Playing end of op.35 (1934?) 7/21/2007 7:36:04 PM
Good heavens: that is fantastic! Thank you.

There's an absolute wealth of real music on YouTube if only you search for the actual artist.

My favourite is a very rare performance by Alfred Cortot of "Der Dichter spricht" from Schumann's "Kinderscenen" - marvellous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8E_0glY3nI

Just give it 40 seconds to get into the actual music itself...

Or try for (e.g.) Earl Wild, Horowitz, Tauber, del Monaco, Ponselle, Solomon...

The list is endless.
5.best master keyboard? 7/20/2007 7:41:33 PM
I still have the Doepfer: yummy Cool

(but expensive, I know)
6.Public domain question 7/16/2007 9:11:19 PM

That's right, I realized that not long after my last post, it was too good to be true....
Maybe I should stick to Josquin des Près, at least I'll be sure it's public domain... Big Smile

Now I conducted some Josquin des Près at Oxford in the mid seventies.

Deploration sur le mort d"Ockeghem. Fantastic piece...

Now that's REAL music (!) Stick out tongue
7.Public domain question 7/15/2007 9:00:59 PM
Or, indeed, Rachmaninov or any of the other great (and not so great composers).

I think I'll take up knitting instead Crying
8.Public domain question 7/15/2007 3:56:22 PM
Good point: I was talking about this with my brother in law today (who plays with the Halle orchestra).

He said that, as far as he knew, the copyright remains with the composer with regards to the actual score/music. It may be, though, that YOUR performance is something entirely different.

Do you, for example, NOT allow people to listen to concerts at a live performance of a composition in which the composer is actually living, or who has been dead for less than 70 years?

Of course not...

At least, that was my impression of what he said.

It's certainly a most thorny issue...
9.Public domain question 7/6/2007 9:27:57 PM
Back to the question: I'm thinking about that as well. I always thought that (in the UK at least) it was a case of 70 years AFTER the composer/arranger died.

Is it different for other countries?

Or am I totally wrong? (and I certainly hope so...)
10.Invitation to a piano concert evening with Guy Bacos 7/4/2007 12:53:19 PM
Ah, Addisell Cool Warsaw Concerto (featured in the film "Dangerous Moonlight" if I'm not mistaken). Very nice
11.An advantage playing the piccolo in an orchestra..... 6/30/2007 7:32:32 PM
A mere snip at $24.99...

12.Doepfer lmk2+ 5/26/2007 11:10:38 PM
I think so (but , as I've never played the LMK2+ I can't be absolutely sure).

Why not give Doepfer an email to find out?

http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm
13.Doepfer lmk2+ 5/26/2007 10:36:01 PM
Can't quite answer your question because I've got the LMK4+: is it good??? Stick out tongue Cool Big Smile

As far as I know the LMK2+ is the middle of the range, i.e. better than the PK 88 (which is piano only, I think).

I think that you'll be very happy with your prospective purchase.

Good luck.

P.S the action of the keyboard is absolutely outstanding: I think you'll see quite a difference.

You might take a look at the Doepfler keyboards, which felt very good to me when I fondled them at Musikmesse.

Doepfer are the best Big Smile I have a LMK4+ and it's built like the proverbial brick (expletive!).

Expensive but like so much else, you gets what you pay for.

16.Chopin's Minute Watz played in 1 minute!! 5/3/2007 6:24:46 AM
It may be superficially impressive but is it actually musical???

I think that I would prefer a more measured performance...

Confused

19.The Jaberwocky - A piece by Hetoreyn & Laurence Gien 4/9/2007 1:25:52 PM
A very nice change: congrats to Laurence.

I've know the poem for over 40 years and still haven't a clue what it's all about.

That says something about me, I suppose [Wink]
20.Orchestral Variations and Fantasy on a Theme by Schumann 4/5/2007 8:27:52 PM
The variation for piano (No. 2) was really delightful.

Also No. 13, 14, 16 & 23 were fab as well.
21.Silent Stage Report #2 3/24/2007 7:54:09 PM
Am I missing something? I've clicked on the http://www.vsl.co.at/en-us/65/71/294.vsl

Right clicked on Apple QuickTime 7: it just gave me a Safari HTML file.

Clicked on Download QT: again it just resulted (this time) in a Dreamweaver file (downloader2.asp) but, again, no joy. It just "hangs" in the air but doesn't download anything.

So, can't actually GET to seeing what the prize question is...

Confused

(P.S. it's the same in Windows Media 9 as well).

Sorry but I don't know anything more about him.
23.Do animals make music? 3/7/2007 5:14:28 PM
My dad's cat played the piano as well: he was quite a virtuoso Stick out tongue

You can find out all about him on my Dad's website which I've created in his memory.

Look under Ted's pets for details... There's even a picture of Arthur (the moggy) sat on the piano, ready to give us a burst of Grieg's piano concerto... Never has a finer performance been heard [Indifferent]

I seem to recall Dietz saying some time ago that Dynaudio were perhaps less agressive. Could be this thread?
