1.Dorico and VEPro latency? 5/17/2020 3:23:53 PM

Hi folks,

Slowly building up a template with Dorico and VEPro, most things work ok, but a question about latency:

It seems like VEPro is not automatically compensating for latency with Dorico. I haven't tested thoroughly, but has anyone else experienced this? I have the soundcard latency set at 64 samples.

Any other Dorico/VEPro users? VEPro 7 and latest Dorico here...

Thanks!

best,

Jussi Lampela

2.[SOLVED] VEPro 5 - connection problem 4/18/2018 10:05:28 AM

yes, thanks all for the help.

Case is now closed, the subnet mask was at first the critical thing, that had to be manually corrected to 255.255.255.0.

After that it still tried to connect via wifi (saw only 192.168.1.194 and 192.168.1.142, the wifi ports presumably).

After that, disabling wifi on the slave forced the manually set IPs to come alive, and now it seems to work again.

Just have to remember to not use wifi on the slave....

3.[SOLVED] VEPro 5 - connection problem 4/18/2018 6:40:26 AM

ok, thanks! Got it somehow....

But actually, the problem persists:

Didn't have time to check last evening if it indeed was working. The dialog in Sibelius reported different static IPs than I had specified in the network configuration-dialog (ending in .142 and .194 for my two computers). Also, the local machine (Mac Mini) now showed an IP address 192.168.1.194 in the VEPro connect-dialog, that has previously been listed only as "localhost etc..."

Also, the sound from the slave was severely distorted and with a big latency, and turning of Wifi confirmed my suspicion that it was trying to connect via Wifi (or so it seems).

So the manually set IP-addresses still don't show up (Master: 192.168.1.7, host: 192.168.1.8, subnet mask255.255.255.0)

Sent to Marnix by email as well

4.[SOLVED] VEPro 5 - connection problem 4/17/2018 1:28:13 PM

SOLVED:

The subnet was the answer! Although I get along with computers somhow decently, any network related things drive me more or less crazy, and this is the first time I've had to touch the subnet settings. What does it do anyway, why is the automatic setting not good?

best,

5.[SOLVED] VEPro 5 - connection problem 4/17/2018 12:18:01 PM

Hi folks,

Need help urgently: VEPro  is not connecting my two OS X computers anymore. It used to do this fine a couple of weeks back, now when coming back to work it does not.

I have two computers, a mac mini and a macbook pro, both running High Sierra and VEP5 (the latest update of 5). I'm primarily using VEPro with Sibelius (Ultimate). The two computers are connected with an ethernet cable, without a router.

I'm attaching a picture of my network settings from both computers (the other machine OS has the Finnish language, but the idea should be clear...). I tried having both fixed and dynamic IP addresses, no luck. Left it right now at fixed.

Anyone? Will mail support of course if no answer here.

best,

Jussi L.

6.VEPro + SE + Sibelius: Staccatos timing is drifty 1/25/2018 7:16:34 AM

Hi,

I started to put together a template in Sibelius, and for the most part things are working ok.

But the timing is a little out when having more notes, and faster tempo. Short string articulations start to drift in tempo.

Is this because extra midi data gets sent quite a lot, is it possibly congesting the playback?

My specs are below, and will send files over if someone could take a look.

Best,

Jussi Lampela

7.Hybrid reverb - White noise blast 3/26/2013 11:42:00 AM

Yes, realized that the previous version could do this. I did do the update before complaining about that the second time.

But no, as we speak it just happened again. Out of the blue, not even between switching instruments or anything that could cause a spike. I was partly saved because I had a limiter on the master bus.

One thing that might be of relevance: I just noticed that although I had updated Vienna suite and the VEPro, I hadn´t updated Vienna Instruments (and actually missing completely Vienna Instruments in Ensemble Pro). I somehow thought that it would get installed with the VEPro but no, it seems?

Nevertheless, the WHITE NOISE BLAST IS HERE AGAIN!

VSL folks, a comment is needed. This is getting highly irritating.

best regards,

J.L.

8.Hybrid reverb - White noise blast 3/23/2013 4:29:22 PM

"So far you've listed nothing that makes a sound......! Any samples/sample players loaded?"

Actually, Hybridverb was on a separate track (don´t remember if it was a bus or input track), that gets a feed from my sample libraries (a mix of VSL players, EWQLSO, some Kontakt libraries).

So by itself it should NOT make any sound, right? But that´s how it seems to be doing! My ears know it for sure.

Again, I´m travelling for a couple of days and can´t get to the rig right now, will provide gladly details later on.

Best,

J.L.

9.Hybrid reverb - White noise blast 3/22/2013 10:58:15 PM

Dietz,

thanks for the reply, I am currently travelling and will list the things I remember off the top of my head:

VEPro v. 4 (Haven´t updated in a while, maybe 3-4 months), standalone

On a PC (Win 7)

Driven from Sibelius on a Mac, via MidiOverLan,

Outputting via ADAT Lightpipe into the Mac (via RME 9652 on the PC, Fireface 800 on the mac)

Best,

Jussi L.

10.Hybrid reverb - White noise blast 3/22/2013 8:30:56 AM

Folks,

this ain´t funny no more, updated Vienna Suite, loaded up the previous template, and BANG......again.

Will now update Vienna Ensemble (I´m still on version 4, don´t say that I need to shell out some cash to get rid of this bug)

HIGHLY annoying. Would be nice if VSL folks would comment on this, I will provide more specific info on request. This makes Hybrid reverb unusable

Best,

Jussi L.

11.Hybrid reverb - White noise blast 3/22/2013 8:08:31 AM

Whoa

I´m lucky that I have a good analog monitor controller right beside me, otherwise I´d be deaf.

A violent blast of white noise from Hybrid reverb (from a PC, as a plugin in VE Pro V 4). Not sure if I have the latest version (Where do I check this from PC plugin?).

Although I generally find these things working ok, this is unbearable. Hope this is fixed. Downloading latest version now....

12.Hybrid Reverb Bug? 5/31/2011 6:36:58 AM

Hi Folks,

just testing out Hybrid Reverb, sounds great and looks real promising. Nevertheless, I think this is a bug:

Tried with a simple Nylon guitar patch (Kontakt 4 factory Lib), that has clearly audible release samples, playing through VEPro server to Pro Tools (Pro Tools 9.0.2), loaded on the same computer as the sequencer.

Somehow the release samples cause all kinds of clicks, and seem to lock the meters on the Hybrid reverb.

Everything is ok with other patches with no release samples.

Can somebody confirm?

I´m on Mac Pro, 10.6.6. latest versions of VEPro and Pro Tools, Kontakt 4.2.2

13.VE Pro + Kontakt 4.1 - ringing notes, lost sustain pedal etc. 3/11/2011 10:10:49 AM

Hi folks,

sorry, didn´t have time to check if someone else is suffering from this, have a slave on PC (Win 7, VE Pro latest) and driving it from a sequencer on Mac (Logic 8).

Seems that Kontakt loses very easily track of sustain pedal, after a while it just doesn´t work. I´m also losing sound completely on the Piano (Kontakt) once in a while, soundmeters move in Kontakt but the meters on the VE Pro instance don´t show anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks, best from Finland

15.New Blog coming up 8/14/2009 9:40:01 PM

hi folks,
thought I´d let You know that I´ll be starting a new blog where I´ll be concentrating a lot on orchestration, notation and sample libraries. I´ve been working quite a lot as an arranger, orchestrator and composer and wanted to share some basic stuff (and some non-basic) with everybody.
I have also teached music notation, and I´ve noticed people ask a lot of the same questions again and again; that´s also a part of the reason to start the blog.

For now only a couple of texts, where I´m going thru some things I bumped on my last session as an orchestrator/arranger. The session itself was an interesting one: An album of material for a finnish singer, recorded in Abbey Road studio 1 with London Philharmonia. Quite an experience.....

16.Kontakt sidelicense for Opus 1 1/12/2008 11:16:43 AM

Sorry for being a bit late, but I could still find use for a Kontakt sidelicense to my Opus 1. Anybody has any clues where I might find them?

Thanks,

17.Core 2 Quad PC + VI 6/22/2007 8:36:56 PM
Hi all,

haven´t been able to find a definitive answer, so here goes...

I´m building a new PC to stream samples from, and considering the core2Quad as main processor. One option would be to use Reaper as plug-in host, which seems to be able to utilize all the cores effectively.

What about Vienna VI:s? I´m coming from the Mac platform (and will continue using with the PC), and as the Mac people know the Vienna Instruments behave sort of like an external application alongside the sequencer (at least with Logic).

So how is it like with PC applications? Are Vienna Instr able to utilize all the four cores effectively inside Reaper (or any other host), or do I have two cores sitting idle?

Not been playing with PC:s in a while, sorry if I´m asking dumb questions.

Best Regards,

JussiL.
