1.Simple Question 5/8/2022 8:16:05 AM

Hi Paul,

Thanks for looking at this.
See attached screenshot. I'm on a newbuild PC with Windows 11 Home.
Have downloaded VEP7 but version 7.1.1298 you can see from VA an update doesn't seem to be an option. Also, the instance and shortcut panes don't seem to be re-sizable by dragging.
Keyboard shortcuts don't appear to do anything either.
I'm new to PC's having been a Mac user for years so I could be missing something obvious here.
As stated earlier your colleague Andreas sent me an email saying these buttons/shortcuts had been discontinued

Thanks Mike.

2.Simple Question 5/8/2022 5:41:40 AM

Ah, that’s exactly what I need!
Wonder if they roll out things at different rates by region? (You’re in US right? I’m in UK)..

I got this reply from Andreas at VSL support:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your email and your feedback. With our growing number of sample players, we removed those additional buttons - by design. There are only two shortcuts: Ctrl + 3/4 for the SY & SY Pianos Player.

I'll forward your feedback.

Kind regards,

Andreas“

Even if they had to remove the buttons it’s a shame they couldn’t leave us the keyboard shortcut

3.Simple Question 5/7/2022 9:53:10 PM

I sent an email to VSL support and they wrote back and told me the buttons had been discontinued in favour of Sychron and Sychron piano buttons

4.Simple Question 5/6/2022 8:42:41 AM

I just got iLok VEP working for the first time.
The shortcut button to add a VI pro plugin into a channel seems to have dissapeared.
Synchron is still there.
Please let me know how to get this back as I want to start adding multiple channels without going to the menu every time!

Thanks

5.VEP 7 Won't install on new PC 5/4/2022 12:14:27 PM

Hi,

Just trying to install VEP7 on brand new PC with new version of Windows 11 and it won't install and run properly as I keep getting the error message MSVCP140.dll is missing.

Anybody any idea what this means?

Thanks

6.No MIRx wet signal on Dimension Cellos Tasto or Pont 4/27/2022 9:27:19 PM

Hi There,

Have discovered a curious seeming anomoly.

There seems to be no wet signal for the above when using Mirx plugin for VI Pro.

Anyone shed any light in this?

7.Articulate Preset for VSL 4/7/2022 10:56:28 PM
Hi,
Has anyone had any luck using the Articulate Preset thing from the company Symphonic Riot for VSL? This thing: https://www.articulate-preset.com/

Just spent an entire evening trying to get the demo version to work with no success.
Skim read the weighty tome of a manual. No quick start guide or video demo in sight.
I managed to get some of the key switch articulation changes working on the first bank page and the vertical and horizontal sliders to some degree but the program change thing is very confusing.
My SL88 keyboard is sending some kind of PC when I switch between presets but it seems to have almost random effects on the plug-in despite me arranging the PC numbers on the keyboard in sequential order.
A video demo would be extremely helpful. On the point now of leaving it be because of lack of this when I would really like it to work.
Anyway. Semi rant over.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.
8.How to open a VIframe files 2/8/2021 10:27:47 AM

Hi,

Could anyone explain how to open the VIframe file included with some of the tutorials?

Can't seem to get either VEP7 or VIP to see the file..

Thanks

9.Practical advice for using VEP7 with limited computing power. 12/31/2020 6:50:15 AM
Hi, thanks very much for your reply.
Can you explain what you mean by rendering and how it differs from freezing?
It’s interesting that you say the two machines didn’t give you much advantage over the one. That’s good for thought for when I upgrade.
I’ve looked into getting more ram but I’m pretty sure MBP’s from 2015 are not upgradable. Thanks Apple :)
The logic thing may be because I’m using an old version of logic.
I’ve had people on logic forums claiming they can save multitimbral tracks as presets but I’ve had to stay on older logic and older OSX as I was always using Sibelius 6.5 which isn’t compatible above Hi Sierra.
But I’ve switched to Dorico now so just got to labouriously export all my old Sib files as music XML and then I can move up to Mojave or Catalina.
ANYWAY.. that’s off topic.
Thanks again for replying.

10.Tips for programming with Dimension Strings 12/29/2020 4:34:56 PM
So funny to come across this all these years after it was written.
I’m having exactly the same issues with Dim strings legato and it’s player 1 causing me to have to use attack to smooth out some of the transitions.
11.Practical advice for using VEP7 with limited computing power. 12/28/2020 10:37:01 AM

Hello everyone and compliments of the season!

So, I'm just looking for advice and thoughts really.

I have a 2015 macbook pro 2.7 GHz with 8 gig ram running OSX Hi Sierra (10.13.6) and Logic 10.1.1

I have managed to build up a number of VI libraries (Cube standard, Orch Str full, App Strings full, Dim String 1 full) and would like to be able to access all of them fairly quickly.
So I built a big template using VEP7 with separate instances for App Strings/harps, Solo/Orch/Chamber Strings, Dim violins/violas, Dim celli/basses, 2 Woodwind instances, 2 brass instances and 2 percussion instances.
Problem is, when I load the corresponding tracks template in Logic, it practically seizes up straight away.
After pressing "play" about 6 times I finally get to play or record without the dreaded "Audio engine cannot process all the info in time" type message.
And this is with all the samples from the template unloaded by VEP7.
So my thought was to freeze multiple tracks which of course means that I'm freezing an entire instance as the logic tracks are multi-timbral. So one freeze affects all the tracks corresponding to that Multi instrument.

SO... next thought was to save each multi timbral track as a preset in the logic library so rather than making many templates of increasing size in VEP7 I could simply launch VEP7, launch logic then choose, for instance orchestral string and percussion 1 say.
However, I've subsequently found out that Logic will not save a preset as a multitimbral instrument.
You can save it as a summing stack, but when recalled, it's lost it's multi-timbrality and has replaced each track with a different increasing instrument number.
So the only way around it would be to, every time I recall an instance of VEP7, spend frustrating time re-assigning and naming each track of the multi timbral instrument to the instance. Which defeats the purpose of having a preset.
SO... I then started just using one instance of VIpro2 per logic track and started saving sections and individual instruments in the Logic presets library.
Which works and is quick, and means that I can freeze track by track so as to conserve CPU power and RAM as I need it
BUT means of course that I'm not using VEP7 which is a shame as I like it and want to have use of the plugins etc should I need them, especially the EQ with all the presets.

The only workaround to this I've discovered is to set up, say, one instance of Orch strings for example, with the corresponding multi-timbral tracks on logic, then save that as a project. Then import the project into what ever current project I'm working on from the Logic browser.
Which works, if a little inelegantly, BUT still doesn't enable me to freeze individual tracks.

SO..... any advice or thoughts from anyone would be much appreciated.
Am I better of just leaving VEP7 for the time being until I have maybe a 2nd slave PC or a much better newer Mac?
And is running VEP on a single machine a waste of time and resources?

Would love to hear other's experiences and thoughts on any of this.
I'd actually like to get on with making some music at some point :)

Thanks,

Mike..

Thankyou for swift reply!

13.MIR pro or 24 what's included 12/22/2020 6:25:45 AM

Hi,

Quick question:

Is the purchase of MIRpro or 24 the software only or does it come with any included rooms?

Thanks Mike

14.Sample library manuals or documentation. 12/10/2020 7:03:54 AM
THANKYOU!!!
And all I have to say for myself for not spotting that is DOH!!
🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
I’ve had Dimension strings for a few months and have been figuring it out without instructions.
This is great.
15.Sample library manuals or documentation. 12/9/2020 10:06:47 PM
Hi everyone.
I know there are comprehensive manuals available on the website for the software products like VI pro and VEP7 etc.
I was just wondering if there were any manuals, documentation or info about the actual sample libraries themselves, other than that which is on the “sample content” page of the website.
Would be good to have some info, for example about velocity layers for different instruments and articulations, a guide to the acronyms and the system of organising the samples in VI Pro etc etc.
I’m getting the hang of using the software, but sometimes find myself staring at an acronym wondering if it is the right one for instrument in a slot etc.
I do occasionally see references to a manual for a sample library in the forums and there seems to be info on velocity layers relating to dynamic markings etc so would be nice to discover some documentation about the libraries if it exists.
Thanks Mike.
16.Special Editions to Symphonic Cube 11/25/2020 11:05:47 AM

Hi again Paul,

Sorry to ask this again, but I think I'm right in saying that some of the articulations from the Se 1 plus will not be included in the Standard version of the Cube but only the Extended version. String repetitions etc.

Just trying to work out if I still need to keep my SE's on the player and on my drive, since I'm probably going to buy Cube Standard.

Thanks again, Mike

17.Special Editions to Symphonic Cube 11/24/2020 1:50:20 PM

Thanks for the swift reply Paul.

One more quick question if I may?

Am I right in saying that everything in SE's 1, 1+ and 2 is included in the SC and therefore, if I do archive my SE's I won't be inadvertently shelving something that I won't have with SC?
(I'm aware there's no appasionata's and dimension strings with the cube, but they're not on my SE's anyhow)

Thanks M

18.Special Editions to Symphonic Cube 11/24/2020 12:42:25 PM

Hi All,

I have Special Editions 1 and 2, and looks like I can get a pretty good upgrade price to Symphonic Cube during the sale.
My question is, if the SC takes up around 500gb, do they use the files already present as SE files or are they self contained?
In short, just trying to work out whether I need to keep the SE files since they obviously take up a fair amount of disc space.

Thanks Mike

19.Transposition Trick and key switches 7/22/2020 8:30:49 PM

Hi all, please forgive if this seems a non-sensical question, still trying to get my head around this.
So I'm trying to assemble a 2nd violins section with Dimension strings, using the same articulations matrix preset as the 1st violins.
If I play in a part using the key switches as I go along, then transpose the midi data up a tone in the sequencer, so I can then pitch it down a tone in VI Pro, achieving use of the upper samples, will that not affect the midi data sent to the matrix? ie. will push each keyswitch matrix setting 2 squares to the right?

Thanks for any light shed on this matter.

20.Advantages of using Vienna Ensemble 11/29/2011 9:40:40 AM
Hi,
Sorry if this seems a silly question, I've just started with Vienna.
Is there a great advantage in setting up your orchestral template with 1 or 2 midi multiple instrument running 1 or 2 instances of VE, as opposed to just creating multiple software instrument tracks and opening an instance of Vienna Instruments in each, and skipping VE altogether.
I'm using Logic Pro 8.
Thanks
Mike..
