1.DAW eg Ableton and Steinway Piano 7/10/2022 5:35:34 AM

Hi all,

I am recording from a keyboard to Ableton, and using Steinway sounds from VSL.

The Ableton setting is 96kHz, 32 bit.

When I export the track as a wav file 96khz 32 bit, and then import it into the project to listen to it, I notice that it is slightly less quality of sound, compared to playing the midi file.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Shouldn't the output wav file sound the same as playing the midi file?

Thanks for any insights

2.Changing tuning 4/3/2019 2:36:14 AM

Hi all,

If we change the tuning from A=440 to another number, is the sound quality affected in a negative way at all?

I am wondering if the sound samples were recorded with A=440, and if we then change the tuning, that this introduces some sort of processing to the sound?

Any ideas greatly aprpeciated.

Thanks!

Thank you!

It gives me something to explore and experiment with!

4.Laptop system requirements 3/20/2019 2:47:38 PM

Hi all,

If I am planning to run the Steinway instrument on a laptop, what would be an adequate SSD size, processor type or other requirements, so that it would work without glitches or latency etc?

Anyone with experience of guidance on what is needed?

Thanks!

5.Konzerthaus Organ questions 3/1/2019 3:00:09 PM

Hi there,

I was wodnering about the Konzerthaus Organ in terms of playing/using it:

1

I have a Synchron instrument (piano) already, so do I need different software to use this organ with my DAW because it is a Vienna Instrument instead?

2

How do you change the registration of the organ (ie the different stops and sounds on the organ) while playing? Or do you usuually record all in 1 registration as MIDI signals to you DAW, then go and change it afterwards via the DAW?

3

How do you record pedal? Do you record record the music for the hands first, then play it in the DAW and record the pedal notes with your keyboard, to match your previous playing with the hands?

Thanks!

6.Ableton Live - glitchy sound when rendering audio 1/27/2019 11:08:26 AM

Hi Paul,

I have sent an email to support.

Thanks!

7.Ableton Live - glitchy sound when rendering audio 1/25/2019 3:05:52 PM

Hi all,

I am using Ableton Live as mt DAW.

When rendering audio, as wav file, 1 in 2 or 3 renders results in a glitchy artefact noise at the beginning of the track for a few seconds.

When I rerender, it can then often render correctly. If not I will have to try again etc.

This has not occured with other virtual instruments.

Has anyone noticed this issue at all?

Thanks!

8.YAMAHA CFX & STEINWAY D... and the winner is... 1/20/2019 8:42:51 AM

Hi John,

Thanks for letting me know.

If you install the update, is it easy to remove it (or does it toggle on or off)? (in case the original version is preferred?)

Thanks,

9.YAMAHA CFX & STEINWAY D... and the winner is... 1/19/2019 4:31:27 AM

Hi Karvala,

You mentioned an update... "After the last update, the instrument is back to a more equilibrated and fine sound, still bright but no longer excessive."

Do you know when the update was?

Thanks!

10.Synchron-Steinway Exploration 8) Isaac Albeniz: Navarra, Las Estaciones op.201 1/12/2019 9:49:45 AM

Hi Fahl,

Thank you fo sharing the your preset on the other post. It is much appreciated!

I will check it out.

I usually have used factory presets in the past.

I will have to go in and check out all the mics and adjusting their balance etc to see what I can come up with. I have not done this before so it will be interesting.

I will probably first need to get used the sound of the different mics, then somehow combine them to make a pleasing combination?

11.Synchron Steinway D 274 and MIR Pro Synchron Stage RP tested out 1/10/2019 3:20:17 PM

Hi Fabio,

I am using the Synchron Steinway D.

So I suppose I should experiment with the preset and different mic balances....

I have not done much of this in the past and relied on presets a lot. I find it is quite headphone dependent too, eg with AKG 701 vs Beyerdynamic 770s there is much difference in sound, and am trying to figure out whether I should use multiple headphones to assess any preset?

12.Synchron Steinway D 274 and MIR Pro Synchron Stage RP tested out 1/9/2019 2:57:01 PM

Hi Fabio,

Simply gorgeous! That is a very beautiful use of voice and piano in a venue, and sounds simply amazing!

I am mainly recording solo piano.

Do you think the MIR pro is useful in this situation, or is it mainly a benefit for recording when combining instruments?

Thanks,

13.Synchron-Steinway Exploration 8) Isaac Albeniz: Navarra, Las Estaciones op.201 1/9/2019 7:21:21 AM

Hi Fahl,

The Navarra is a great piece, very well done! Never heard that piece before.

Can you tell me which preset did you use with the VSL Steinway for that piece?

Thanks!

14.Question about gain and volume set up for Steinway D 12/30/2018 1:49:21 AM

Hi all,

I am using a keyboard to send MIDI signals to (in my case) Ableton Live, to run the Steinway D. The sound from Abletone to my computer audio, where I am listening on headphones connected to my computer, when playing.

I want to set it up so that when playing on the keyboard

1. the volume sounds appropriate to your touch when playing, and

2. the audio does not clip and is just under 0db or some may say better to be -3bd or more.

So my questions are, to make sure I am doing this right, and to preserve quality of the audio signal: When setting up the instrument, there is a volume slider on the Synchron Pianos interface as well as the computer volume setting...

Do I just arbritrarily set the computer audio level to some level (or should it be at a certain level), before I adjust the volume on Synchron Pianos?

Thank you,

15.Is there a list of AU/VST/AAX Native compatible hosts (DAWs)? 12/29/2018 7:26:33 AM

Hi all,

With the Steinway D, it says system requirements include:

"AU/VST/AAX Native compatible host"

I use Ableton Live.

Is there a list of "compatible" DAWs that work with Vienna Symphic Library, in particularly the Steinway D, and versions of the software including Ableton?

Thanks for any help!
