Well, I spoke too soon. Sometimes it behaves as I previously described and how VSL stated it should work, and other times when I boot up VSL every instance is looking at the mixer. I have seen no pattern to indicate why.

Support provided some info on this which I’m posting here in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation:

“The problem with your routing is that the FX Sends are not taken into consideration with latency compensation.
If you insert the Audio Input plug-in as an FX plug-in directly into the Audio channel, latency will properly compensated for!

Please note that VE Pro has actually been designed as a network compatible host for virtual instruments and not as a remote FX rack - the latter will work to a certain extent, but you will come to its capacity limits pretty soon.
Basically, the Audio Input plug-in was mainly meant for a couple of additional audio tracks, which have to be placed into the same MIR Pro venue as the used software instruments...”

I think Support meant for Logic specifically as I saw a lot of tutorials for using Sends in other DAWs. Although those tutorials may have used a low latency spatial effect like reverb so may not have noticed it was delayed. Who knows.

After re-routing the audio it indeed worked perfectly! So in Logic it seems to work as a final insert or to replace bus processing.

If it's helpful at all, I'm demoing 7.2.1516 and after selecting View > Save Default Window Layout while looking at the Instrument window, reloading the Server Project now opens looking at the Instrument window.

I'm currently demoing VEP and this forum has been a great help in understanding it. Unfortunately I'm having a little trouble understanding its latency reporting in Logic Pro. When using it as an effects send, the end result always seems to be uncompensated latency on the return.

I've attached a simple Logic project and VEP Server Project to show this. One instance of Ozone is in the Server Project just because it adds enough latency, but it can be replaced with anything that adds a lot of latency. 

I'm using bypassed I/O plugins and following the directions and tips I could find in the manual and on the forums. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
