1.YAY **Synchron Strings Pro** NOW available! 10/21/2020 3:42:20 PM

To answer my own question just in case anyone else later has the same:

Moving the sections around in space was amazingly effortless. I removed the room mic, panned the close mic to center and increased the volume, and spread the main mics fully. After that it just plopped right into MIR and works as expected. I'd even say it sounds better than the completely dry Dimension Strings, even with the remaining reverb from the samples.

Forcing strings or finger positions is not supported.

2.Synchron Strings Pro and 1 legato patches comparison 10/19/2020 10:04:57 PM

I have run into the same problem, but I'm coming from Dimension Strings.

Even the normal attack long articulations need some time to get going which makes it really hard for me to use them in melodies with short rests, because the first note after the rest will always have this slow attack. There seems to be no way to start a phrase instantly without using the marcato articulation, which is really not what you want to do.

I've attached a picture which should highlight the issue. The upper waveform is SSP long regular vibrato normal attack, the lower waveform is Dimension Strings sustain vibrato. Both are playing the exact same note at max velocity/CC1. You can clearly see that SSP needs around half a second to get to its peak loudness. DS just comes full force right off the bat.

It only affects the first note because all the following notes in a legato articulation will all have the correct loudness right from the beginning (playing melodies with the non-legato sustain articulations is entirely impossible though). However, this also introduces audible artifacts: If you play the second note while the first is still "starting up" you will notice a sharp change in loudness between the first and the second note.

I really, really love everything else about SSP, but this slow attack on a first long note is driving me nuts. I've been mailing back and forth with VSL support but so far I've not been able to find a viable workaround. What we would need is some sort of "fast" attack articulation. Maybe something could be imported from Synchron Strings I?

3.YAY **Synchron Strings Pro** NOW available! 10/13/2020 8:03:47 AM

I really, really like my German seating for the strings and would prefer to keep it. Is there any sane way to re-pan the sections provided that I already have MIR and the Synchron Stage room pack?

Also, is it possible to force playing on certain strings like for Dimension Strings? I couldn't find any related settings in the GUI screenshots.

5.HOT NEWS: SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions 7/23/2019 11:36:13 AM

I got the Synchron-ized Dimension Strings Special Edition last week and wow, it's been a great week since then.

  • The sound is great when paired with MIR, no muddyness at all. I love the clearness you get when virtually sitting in third row.
  • Legato works exactly and consistently as I want and expect it to respond. This is just so huge for me, no more fiddling to get those slurred passages to sound right, it just works!
  • The provided articulations are all I need for now, even in the special edition (forced strings would be great, but something's got to give at that price point).
  • I could adjust everything to my preferred control flow for use in Cubase with note expression maps:
    • Articulation changes with keyswitches.
    • Modify the attack via layered staccato patches (for everything!).
    • Control attack via key velocity.
    • Volume crossfade with CC1.
    • Cross-articulation crossfade with CC20.
  • Divisi writing is just so dead simple.

I used to use a competitor's strings library, but DS just does exactly what I want: Great close-up sound, great customizability, and precise and consistent control over the music. I bought it on a whim after another frustrating round of fiddling with said competitor library's slurred legato, and the value has been just amazing.

I really, really hope that you guys will also come out with a Synchron-ized Dimension Brass Special Edition. I'll be the first to line up for that.

6.AVAILABLE NOW: Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 5/3/2019 8:54:23 PM

The problem was that the old instance loaded in a separate window. Right-clicking the instance in the main server window and selecting "Snap Instance" put it back into the main window and now everything works as expected.

Upgrading to VEP7 broke the interface for me. I loaded a VEP6 instance and I get sound in Cubase just fine, but I cannot interact with the UI at all. I can hover over all items and I can see the UI react to that (e.g. the tooltip in the lower left corner changes) but clicking anything does nothing at all. When I hold down Alt I can see that the Menu bar underlines the shortcuts (E for Edit for example) but menus do not open. When playing music faders and everything update just fine.

The server window itself is also working fine. It's just the instance window that is broken. This in on Windows 7.

8.Routing audio internally in VEPro 5 10/5/2012 7:20:33 PM
I'm building an orchestral template and want to use VEPro for all of my mixing, and then just have Cubase connect to it for inputting MIDI and outputting the final mixing result.

One problem I've run into is that VEPro does not seem to allow to load VEPro Audio Input plugins (to avoid endless loops?).

I currently have 5 instances running of which one is the final mixing stage (with e.g. reverbs for different rows in the orchestra). I want to route the audio output of the other instances to the one mixing instance for easy mixing consistency.
However to do this, I first have to route the audio back to Cubase, insert the respective audio input plugins there to route the audio back to the VEPro mixing instance which kind of defeats VEPro's purpose of decoupling the mixing from Cubase. Is there an easy way to route audio around inside VEPro between different instances that I am missing?
9.VEPro Freezes on loading anything that contains Play (EWSO) 10/5/2012 7:07:43 PM
I had the exactly same issue some time after upgrading to VEPro 5.

What fixed it for me was upgrading both Cubase and VEPro to the latest versions. After that it loaded just fine (doesn't get stuck at 1%) but in the process it duplicated all my instances but with generic names ("Unpreserved x" instead of "Strings").
After that I reassigned all VST instruments to the proper instances, saved and reloaded everything. From then it worked fine again.
