any chance of a reply to the above?

3.UPDATE: MAS Version for Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 available 8/14/2015 8:51:36 AM

major bummer tonight....:(

I was trying out my first project with the new & improved VEP5 ver. 5.4.13741. I'm on a single MacPro, running DP8.07 on OS 10.8.5. I set up a piece with a single instance of VEP5 that contained 5 Kontakt 5 instances. All went really smoothly as I was writing the piece, but once I had a version I liked, I attempted to "bounce" all of my 40+ midi tracks to a 2-track .wav. This was the biggest thing that I was looking for with the new VEP5. It didn't work at all. The resultant .wav contained only bits & pieces of the 40+ midi tracks and after the bounce finished, a number of notes "hung". (first time I've had that in 3-4 years).

So has anyone else tried bouncing midi tracks to audio,  using the new VEP5?

4.UPDATE: MAS Version for Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 available 8/14/2015 12:55:19 AM

so, is everyone now settled on "715"? (a.k.a. "ver. 5.4.13715")

Paul, just to be crystal clear on this...is the (only) reason for pulling the update the "AU/MAS confusion" and - if "yes" - should those of us who perfer to work with MAS and have the update working fine, stay with it? Or were there additional reasons for pulling the update?

nightwatch, I know this seems sn overly simple amswer, but is it possible that, when you installed the new VEPro5, that you installed *only* the MAS plugin? That's what I did (on purpose) and my system's reacting just as you describe your's, i.e. when I open a VEPro5 server, then DP. then insert a VEPro5 Instance, it's already a MAS Vepro4 Instance - with out me having to make any other selections, re: Au or otherwise?

7.Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use? 6/20/2014 1:20:20 PM

hey Bill, thanks for your help.

unfortunately for me - using MOTU's Digital Performer  - (a.) not using Event Plugin means losing 16 channel/instance multitimbral capability, but (b.) using Event Plugin means losing DP's Bounce Midi Tracks feature. Both are features I use every day...

8.Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use? 6/17/2014 9:54:18 AM

thanks guys, that clears it up. Unfortunatley, Bill, VEPro5's not an option for me, as I use DP's Midi-bounce heavily and Event Plugin can't (currently) work with that Sad

9.Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use? 6/16/2014 1:52:56 PM

Paul, I'm really sorry to bother again about this question, but it's still not clear to me (as to how it would work in my situ). Because of Event Plug-In's inablilty to bounce tracks in Digital Performer, I cannot use VEPro5 in my setup. So, allowing that I will not be using VEPro5, if I get Solo Strings and I want to do a "string quartet" in a DP session, can I:

(a.) put all four instruments (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello) in a single Vienna Instruments Player instance iwth differeing midi channels for each instrument, or

(b.) would I need 4 x Vienna Instruments Players, each on a seperate midi channel?

many thanks

10.Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use? 5/23/2014 6:13:19 PM

thanks for that, Paul

a question, ifI may?

the text for Vienna Insturments (not PRO) says, "The Vienna Instruments Player is the basic mono-timbral software to run any Vienna Instruments Collection."

So, does "mono-timbral" mean that VI(notPRO) is not multi-timbral, i.e. cannot run 16 (or more) distinct midi channels in a single instance?

11.Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use? 5/23/2014 1:36:38 PM

hello all, I am looking at purhasing two of the Vienna Instruments "Special Editions". It says that these come with "Vienna Instruments Player". My question is if any of you are still using this "Player" and not the Vienna Instruments *PRO* Player? My budget is streched as is and no room for the *PRO* Player right now. BTW, I'm on a Mac using DP 8

12.Problem Bounce To Disk with DP 8.05 10/26/2013 3:23:45 AM

hey Labman,

afaik, freezes on midi tracks work just fine in DP with Eventplugins. It's *only*' "bounce to disk" on midi tracks in DP with Eventplugins thant doesn't woprk. Unfortunatley for me, that's something I use all the time?Stick out tongue

But for those whno don't use this feature, grab VEPro5 and you're off and running!!

13.Problem Bounce To Disk with DP 8.05 10/24/2013 3:23:56 PM

hey labman, sorry I can't weigh in on this?

First off, I've never had stuck or dropped notes with VEPro5 & DP (7 or 8). Oh, I've had *LOADS* of stuck and/or dropped notes - - just not with VEPro5...

But secondly, I've dropped using VEPro5 altogether (for the time being) because of the "can't bounce midi tracks with Event plugins" thing. I just do "bounce midi tracks" way too often on every project to work without that feature.

But there are supposedly new "fixes" in both DP 8.05 & VEPro5.2 that relate to both playing mroe happily with each other. Hopefully (for you) some fixes?

14.Problem Bounce To Disk with DP 8.05 10/24/2013 2:05:49 PM

hey Robert, here's a link to the thread:

http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/30474.aspx?PageIndex=1

and it's worth a thorough read, as it explains the problem well.

But the "operative" statement (from Karel) is here:

http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/p/30474/197779.aspx#197779

indicating that the problem lies with the way that MOTU (DP) does bouncing and it may or may not ever be resolved. It (the problem) has been around ever since Event plugins & DP7, I think.

It's worth noting that an awful olot of folks use VEPro5 with DP and absolutely love it. Go hang out over on MOTUNation and you'll find planty of fans. If you're *not* using Event Plugins or don't mind track freezing or real-time bouncing, it won't be an issue for you.

But if, like me, you do need Event plugins and don't have the time for freezing/real-time, well....we'll just have to wait for a while for a fix!

15.Problem Bounce To Disk with DP 8.05 10/24/2013 3:45:25 AM

hey Robert, unfortunately you won't be able to bounce DP midi tracks that are running through Event plugins in VEPro5. This has been the situ for some time and has been heavily covered here. There are "work-arounds" - - freeze tracks, record in realtime, etc. but not bounce. Sorry....

16.no bounce yet for VEPRo5(.2) & DP (8.05) and midi using Event plugins... 10/18/2013 4:58:53 PM

for those of you (us) who've been following this issue, just to let you
know that the DP/VEPro5/"Event Plugin can't bounce a MIDI track" issue
still exists with DP 8.05 & VEPro5.2, that is you still can't bounce
MIDI tracks if you're using Event Plugin(s). VSL & MOTU have both
mentioned more compatibility with each other in these newer releases, but no joy for Event Plugins (...yet?). wonder if this will ever get sorted?

17.Digital Performer 8 bounce "fix" in VEPro5 update? 9/6/2013 1:34:59 PM

Paul, Karel, et al.

There is a note in the the changelog for VEPRo5 ....684 that states, "Fixed offline bouncing not working correctly in Digital Performer 8".

But this does not apply to bouncing a midi track, when using using "Event", does it? I am still getting blank audio tracks when trying to bounce a midi track thru Event plugin.

18.Digital Performer 8 and vienna ens pro 5 7/15/2013 9:50:20 PM

crutifixus, the CPU window in Digital Performer has always been....."highly suspect". Most of us DP users just ignore it and go by other measures of CPU usage. I'm a Mac guy, so i wouldn't know but I would suspect that if your windows manager shows about 30-32% CPU ,that sounds about right (maybe even a little high)

19.VEPro5 can't "see" VI player plugin? 5/20/2013 8:54:52 AM

how do I get VEPro5 Server 64 (latest verison) to "rescan" Audio Units? It's not "seeing" my Epic Orchestra (VI player)?

((o.k., figured out how to rescan AU's (standalone). But, even though I have "Vienna Instruments.component" (5.3.11859) in my Library>Audio>Plugins>Components, VEPro5 still does not list it as an Instrument plugin?))

(((o.k., sorry, figured it all out! but can't figure out how to delete this post?!)))

20.VEP5 - DP 8.01/7.24 Current Situation 4/23/2013 3:16:17 PM

Arceo, I'm a DP8 (VEPro5, Konakt5) user who's just gotten more and more frustrated! Started using VEPro5 back with DP 7.24 and things went pretty smoothly, but then I was on OS 10.6.8.Now, I'm on OS 10.8.3, booting 64bit and the DP8/VEPro5/Kontakt5 combo was a crash monster. I wrote to VSL tech, sent a crash report or two and got back, "it's Kontakt's fault". Period.

So, for the time being, I've dropped using VEPro5 at all for the time being, as the DP8/Kontakt5 combo is *fairly* stable.

It's really a shame, as I'd *like* to use VEPro5, just no faith in it right now. Also - with Events - it removes DP's ability to bounce midi tracks, which is a non-runner.

21.VEPro5 (5.1.12010) crashing with DP8.01 & OS 10.8.2 2/20/2013 7:29:42 PM

Thanks very much, Paul. It *may* be a particular library within a Kontakt 5.1 instance taht's causing these crashes. I am investigating and will write more soon.

22.VEPro5 (5.1.12010) crashing with DP8.01 & OS 10.8.2 2/19/2013 11:56:22 PM

Unfortunately, I hav to add meself to the list of folks who are reporting the lastest VEPro5 crashing? I'm using the newest update (5.1.12010) 64 bit server, with Digital Performer 8.01 and Mac OS 10.8.2.  - - all 64-bit. I am using only three or four instances of Kontakt 5.1/64-bit. It all runs fine for a while but, within an hour, will crash VEPro5, leaving DP open.I have a crash report, but do not know how to attach it here?

23.Vienna Instruments (not PRO) 5.2 can't "see" installed Epic Orchestra? 1/23/2013 2:44:34 PM

hello all,

I am pretty sure that I have properly installed Epic Orchestra - one 3.7 GB "V50_epic-orchestra_std_v1" folder containg the 7 compressed ".cab" files, then one 6.7 GB "Vienna Epic Orch" folder containing the 16 ".dat" files. However, when I run Vienna Instruments 5.2.11091 (64-bit) - either standalone or as a plugin, the "browser" column - preset, matrix or patch -  is empty and I can not find a setting to tell the player where to "look" for the library?

24.Mac Mini Slave... 12/24/2012 4:40:11 PM

Sean, you wrote: "First tip, just MacOSX Disc Utilities Restore instead of Carbon Copy Cloner to do the migration!"

why so? do you have to "Time Machine" to do MacOSX Disc Utilities Restore?

25.Mac Mini Slave... 12/14/2012 7:07:54 PM

Paul & Beckett, I'm following your all's comments with HUGE interest!! I've got a pretty beefy MacPro (8-core, 24GB RAM), but this'll be my first encounter with a Satellite Mac (probably a Mini server).

But, as your both writing on this forum, (one of) my quesitons would be, if you're running your system Mac's @ 64-bit (with 64-bit DAW's), what's the advantage (if any) in using VEPro5 at all? It was a huge help to me when I was 32-bit/32-bit. But now that I'm running 64-bit (Mac boot, OS 10.8.2)/64-bit(Digital Performer 8), I'm wondering whether I need to use VEPro5?
