With the full Synchron Concert D, there are presets / ways to make the piano sound different - 6 preconfigured presets: Concert, Intimate, Player, Pop, Ambience, and Mighty. For the special edition version, are these 6 presets included, just with less velocity layers? Thanks!

Hi JT3_Jon,

Yes, you also get 6 presets to play with the Concert D-274 Light, with 30 velocities, a Room-Mix channel (a mix of all available Room mics) and a Close microphone.

Of course there is a difference to the full-blown Synchron Concert D-274, but the results are quite impressive, I'd say.

Best,
Paul

Paul, I put my question in this thread dedicated to the piano, to avoid making the other one too busy.

May you reveal if the Close mic included with the Light piano is the Close 1, 2 or 3 from the full library?

Thank you!

Paolo

HI Paolo,

It shall be revealed: It is the Condenser Mic that is also contained in the Standard Library of the Synchron Concert D-274!

Paul

Hi

i am a happy owner of the Synchronized Special Edition bundle and i must say i am quite impressed by the D-274 Light piano. Can you please tell  me what are the differences with the standard version? (i am afraid i can't afford the full version for the time being...). I understand that Standard has more mic positions but will i get more velocities and/or layers in the same setting that i have in Light (room-mix , close) ? Will the exact same setting sound better?

Hi S4410,

Glad to hear that you like your light version of the Concert D-274.

With the STANDARD Library off the Concert D-274, you will get:

- more velocities
- more mics (check the mic listing on the product page, scroll down)

You can check out some demos here, and if you click the "i" button, you will see which preset was used.
You will definitely get more options and a "deeper" sound with the standard library.

Best,
Paul

I dont know if this helps, but this is the product description of the standard and full D-274 product page.

https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Synchron_Package/Concert_D#!Product_Info

It doesnt list how many velocity layers you get with the full version, but I would guess around 100, as opposed to the 30 velocity layers that come with the lite version.

As best I can tell, the lite version has 30 velocity layers and two sliders for adjusting the room mix and close mic. The standard version has (probably) around 100 velocity layers with individual sliders for the room mix, close mic, a mid mic, and the deca tree mic(s). The full version has (I believe) the same amount of velocity layers as the standard version, but adds a half dozen more mic positions.

Best,

1. Is there any particular reason that VSL will not disclose the number of velocities on the Synchron library (Steinway D, etc)?  As it stands, a forum user (littlewierdo) has guessed that it's around 100.  However, VSL administrator and Product Manager Paul has not commented further on littlewierdo's assertion of 100 layers.  Given that the Lite version is 30 layers, and the old Imperial library is 100 layers, I would hope that we would max out the number of MIDI velocities available (127 above 0).

Can we just get a definitive answer on the number of velocities?

2. Is there more comprehensive information available on the mic placements for Synchron Steinway D?  Specifically, what are the exact location of the mics?  Also, can any of the mics be routed to any speaker channel output?  So for example, could I route all of the close mics to the surround channels?

Thanks
