    Hi David,

You beat me to it, just wanted to post the announcement!

Yes, BBO: Brass is now a reality, in form of 4 new products:

    BBO: Hercules - Low Brass
BBO: Izar - Low Brass Clusters
    BBO: Jupiter - 6 Horns
    BBO: Kopernikus - 4 Trumpets

BBO: Hercules features 4 bass trombones, a bass tuba and optional a contrabass tuba played as ensemble. As always with multiple mics + additional close mics. Up to five velocity layers, from emotional pianissimo up to brassy and striking fortississimo, and real legato recordings, glissandos, swells, flutter tonguing, trills and more! (intro-price: € 65, reg € 95)

BBO: Izar consists of the same ensemble as Hercules, but played as clusters. All the same articulations with the exception of legatos. (intro-price: € 55, reg € 85)

BBO: Jupiter - 6 horns, the perfect number of horns for our Synchron Stage Vienna, crispy, powerful, from pianissimo up to fortissimo. (intro-price: € 65, reg € 95)

“The horn is the soul of the orchestra” (Robert Schumann). These horns cover the range of emotions and give your orchestra the soul it needs.

Same number of velocity layers, similar articulations just like BBO: Hercules.

BBO: Kopernikus - 4 Bb Trompets complementing the other brass sections with its high-end, adding the typical cinematic trumpet sound to your music. (intro-price: € 65, reg € 95)

Spicy fanfares, swells, or high background chords - these trumpets can do all of it. Same count of velocity layers, similar articulations.

All these feature many mixer presets, and don’t forget to check out the “Processed” mixer presets for even more BRASS! (but don’t forget that there are 4 more velocity layers, just add some of these now for contrast 😉 )

    Best,
    Paul

Great Release! I will order these + the Imperial soon. 👍

Most desired future wish (probably for many people) ... to make it a perfect match with the dimension series ...

    - Wagner Tuba Ensemble

    - Trombone Ensemble

    Thanks.

  • Just got those big four, A great bargain.

This team of four brass set is a real killer, amazing and a so realistic sound.

When playing the Jupiter Horns, one can almost hear the realism of the first note attack, almost never heard that precision in any other brand brass library.

I love this BBO collection one can afford purchasing regularly to build up a consistent complementary Library to the big Synchron one.

     Thumbs up again VSL !

  • Yay, Dewitt!

Thanks for taking the time to comment here!

  • Hello,

Are Sibelius soundset and possibly Dorico expression maps are expected for these 4 brass products?

    Thanks!

    Gil.

    +1 for Dorico

My birthday is on the 28th of June, those libraries are on my present list 😊

  • Hello Gil and Cyril!

Sibelius sound sets are on the to do list.
For Dorico we will focus on the SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions first, before we look into other libraries.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Andi,

Thank you for your quick answer (to two french Parisians ;-)), and for the Dorico expression maps news! I don't want to hijack this thread, but do you have an ETA for the EM (and is it a Dorico 3.5 one)?

    Take care and best regards!

    Gil.

  • Hello Gil!

Dorico Expression Maps for SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions will hopefully come this summer, but I can't say for sure. They will be for Dorico 3.5.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hello Andi

Dorico 3,5 contains major updates of the Expression Maps.

It will be a pity not to profit of them

    Thanks  in advance

  • Hi!  What is the difference, if any, between these brass recordings and the SE recordings?

    Thank you!

    Hi GP1,

    Where to start?  😊

Our Big Bang Orchestra, like all SYNCHRON SERIES products, was recorded with multiple mics at our Synchron Stage Vienna. Our goal is to capture the rawness and full range of a full-on orchestra, now even expanding with sections (choirs and brass are available now).
Via those multiple mics, you can sculpt your sound in many ways, like being in the control room of an up-to-date scoring stage. We're pouring in all our experience from our ongoing score-recordings, capturing the sound that is used in modern scoring productions.

Our Vienna Instruments product line, incliuding the Special Editions, were recorded in a dry ambience (the Silent Stage) and are available as stereo files. In the case of our SYNCHRON-ized product line, those samples (originally recorded for the VI Player) are now available in the Synchron Player, re-edited and perfectly placed @Synchron Stage Vienna, with the help of impulse responses.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul, thank you so much!

So, they will mix well with the Syncrhonized SE that I already have?

  • A problem I see with Dorico maps for the BBO series is that Dorico wouldn't have the matching instruments. Dorico is reasoning in terms of solo and section instruments, but has no mixed ensembles.

The only trick I would thing of is to use a generic Synth/Keyboard instrument, then manually associate one of the BBO libraries to it.

I don't know if this can be saved in a playback template, and if selecting a playback template would select the right expression map, or break the manually created routing.

Correct. All Synchron Series products are designed to compliment each other!

  • Again on Dorico. Not only an instrument definition would be missing, but also the supporting playing techniques for some of the most 'adventurous' techniques in the BBO libraries. Take for example Black Eye, and the Echoes technique.

    - How to notate it? (Probably, just a long note with a textual indication above).

    - How to notate techniques with a more traditional background (like falls, runs, graced, delayed)?

    - In which category to include these indications, without a supporting instrument definition? Keyboard?

    Paolo

  • Hi Paolo,

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Maybe our notation forum is the better place to discuss such DAW-specific questions?

    Best,
    Paul
