Introduction

Welcome to Vienna Performer!

Vienna Performer turns the MIDI in your DAW into a real musical performance. Instead of triggering samples note by note, it sends whole phrases to AI instrument models that were trained on performances recorded by Vienna Symphonic Library in Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage, and returns them as audio that plays back in sync with your project.

About Vienna Performer

Vienna Performer is a virtual instrument plug-in. You insert it on an instrument track, choose an instrument model, and record or write MIDI as usual. The plug-in captures that MIDI, splits it into phrases (performances) and renders each phrase on the VSL render servers. The finished renders are stored as audio files in your project folder and play back like a recording.

A few principles to keep in mind:

  • You edit in your DAW. Notes, keyswitches and controller data are edited in your DAW's MIDI editor. The Performances section in the plug-in only shows what Vienna Performer captured and how it interprets it; it cannot be edited inside the plugin, but in your DAW.

  • Rendering uses credits. Every render takes server time, which is deducted from your credits. That is why rendering is never started without your say-so (see Rendering).

  • Renders are like recording-session stems. Each model delivers two stereo channels, Room (Decca Tree) and Close, mastered to blend with the Synchron Series.

  • Before a render is ready, you hear a simplified preview sound, so you can keep working while the server is busy.

Requirements

  • A DAW or notation program that hosts VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins.

  • An internet connection and a VSL user account for rendering.

  • An active Vienna Performer subscription.
